27 Au 18

The 2018 HH100 is in the books and results are posted on line. Speaking strictly and solely for myself, glad that it is over in some ways.

SUCH AS ?

Well, training is a bear. The shorter training rides were not bad but the longer endurance rides were grueling. There is certainly an element of danger trying to ride in such a densely populated area with drivers that should not be granted licenses.

Next question.

HOW DID YOU DO ?

Thanks for an easy one. Mrs Stewart isn’t it ?

First, I finished 100M and let’s start there. I trained well. Long, hard and only missed two (2) sessions early-on in June when I was out of town. There were windy conditions, summer in this part of the world is warm so high temperatures were not a surprise.

Overall 642 out of 1855 (35%) and 534th of 1486 (36%) in the men’s (male) category. So roughly top third for conversations sake. Now the fun starts and that is of course the speculation & spin.

A total of 108 girls beat me. That’s embarrassing when I think about it. That’s a LOT of women.

On the OTHER hand, I was scrolling UP and in my particular AND specific age bracket, I COULD HAVE BEEN Top Ten. The granularity and resolution of the ‘data’ at that level was or has not been sorted out yet. So it was good.

ANY GREAT MOMENTS ?

What do you mean buy that ? There were probably too many to mention here. Right now they are fresh and were ALL great moments. Can you be more pacific ?

SPECIAL MOMENTS.

Of course.

The start is always spectacular. Doing 100M again I forgot that they start you nearer the front with literally thousands lined up behind nearly as far as one can see. That was ‘special.’

The jets flew over and that was an old fashioned rush.

They shoot off a very loud cannon. That adds to the excitement for sure.

But when I made way under the big arch and looked up and saw the flag flying, I did choke up a bit. I recall thinking how can or could those football (American) players not stand and continue to ‘take a knee’? Millionaire’s indeed. They are all broke.

Approaching the finish line was a thrill.

I trained in km and calculated 100m = 164k so I knew I was getting closer. Of course I was pretty well tired by then but just before crossing I heard ‘There’s grandpa’. It was 159 k.

It was nice to have Family there. Kind of surprised that THEY were surprised that I finished. Perhaps they were somewhat disappointed that inheritance funds will have to wait. I don’t know.

Immediately after I couldn’t think clearly enough long enough to answer any questions but that soon passed after finding some shade and getting the ONE question I COULD answer.

‘Something to drink?’

'Cold and sweet' and a coke was all I wanted and could utter so S1 took off and returned with a small bottle (250ml) that was cold, divine and gone without even time to THINK and / or missing the splash of Makers.

Then out course some water.

FB had a pineapple smoothie IN A PINEAPPLE !! The nextgens were taking turns on straws and THAT was good.

We got off the grounds quickly and were headed out.

THEN WHAT ?

Well, the ride to McK started the after-party if you’re able to catch the drift. From the cosmos appeared a bottle of Capt Morgan’s coconut flavored rum. The 90 proof good stuff and when we stopped early on for fuel, Br12 ran in and got two (dos) grande cups of ice and nailed the perfect double pour.

We reached the cloud quickly AND safely and found the cement pond accepting and accommodating to cool off and refresh. GS1 made numerous valiant attempts to drink ALL the water more than once getting a snoutful but popping up each time for more.

When the rocking out wore thin and as the sun started to set everyone dried off, redressed and loaded up heading out to El Pollo Alegre where we ate like the royals. Four adults and two ninos, all totally filled AND brought leftovers back for under $100.

That’s about all I have time for today. Thank you.

ONE MORE …

You heard me … Thank you.
