Breaker 1-9 / 2015
Breaker Won Nine, Breaker one nine… got your ears on ?
Back in the day, a few years back, CB radios were a rage. With such a technology one could listen in & even talk to truck drivers on the open road. By today's standards, such radios would in all likelihood be trendy. So, from ‘ancient history’ comes a story.
In the 70’s, after undergraduation and before spouses, houses, children, exes including threapists, when life was easy & uncomplicated, I was revisiting friends in SC. One buddy had just got a radio (CB) & after getting fortified one night we decided to go for a ride & check out the chatter. There was a lot of garbage, aka smack & ‘trash talking’ and I am thinking nobody really does this do they ? Kind of like the internet today with useFULL applications being far, FAR outpaced by spam, junk & useLESS drivel.
So I axed for the the mike & made up a handle on the fly ‘Breaker 1-9 this is the Sizzlin’ Zipper (SZ). Whose got their ear’s on?’ And promptly shut down putting down the mike, moniker & alter ego in permenant retirement forever.
I got a lot of quick responses, so apparently needless to say, there were a lot of peeps out there just listening like we were with not much better things to do. I can hear it all now…
‘Come back Sizzlin’ Zipper.’ ‘SZ what’s is your 20’ (location) or so I was told. ‘Yo SZ, where you headed?’ ‘Where you from?’ ‘Come on back SZ’
Color me gone.
Anyway, I have landed and am slowly getting my feet back on the moving deck. It is before dawn & I am up early. Could not sleep at 5:13 so at 5:44 have estate mint with sumac berries & most delicious as usual. Coffee is OK but I always seem to soon forget how good this estate blend is sweetened with blue agave nectar (organic). It stays super hot for a very long time in this techno-thermal cup received as a Christmas gift on the NM trip.
HEY, WHERE IS OR WHAT HAPPENED TO SANCHEZ ?
OMG … really ?
If you MUST KNOW, he is MIA. I am still waiting for some, no ANY, kind of report. When he files it, as editor I’ll edit it & post if necessary & worthy of readership.
AREN’T YOU AT LEAST WORRIED OR EVEN CONCERNED?
Short answer, no.
He dramatically fabricated his own death one time when he was the mystery ghost beat writer covering the Bladerunners hockey team when they were eliminated from the playoffs one season.
A flaming car crash. Pathetic. Really.
I got a letter of concern from Emma from Oz. Turns out Winter is coming on there & without a posting for some time, she was wondering if everything was OK.
I don’t mind telling you that I spent MY three (3) days in hell. Not Hell, but hell. Sometimes I refer to it as a ‘bit of a funk’ when things seem to go bad, all luck leans against & the picture is shrouded in a darker grey to a black smokey mist.
Were I a follower & true believer in therapists, therapy & such nonsense, I am sure I could have whined to them & gotten some kind of ‘feel good’ meds.
I had a bizzarro dream last night regarding a bunch of such people, standing around, talking & sounding profound and here was this therapist handing them all some kind of pills. It seemed to keep them talking & happy. Like I said, very strange.
I however have now learned that by DEALING with it, staying focused, strong, positive AND BUSY, in about three days, often times less & it passes and is over. It’s a consistent little pattern, a ‘trend’ I noticed from YEARS of corporate training.
So yesterday, a GLORIOUS day, Patty came over & did some heavy lifting wrt cleaning the casa. I treated her to a light gourmet dinner. A spring salad with fresh tender greens from the gardens & the house dressing from Thomas Jefferson. Yes THAT Thomas Jefferson. He used a simple process & mixture of olive oil, vinegar, salt & pepper then items from a list of available fresh & dried herbs. The combinations are endless & wonderful.
BORING. THAT’S ONLY ONE DAY …
Tough crowd.
Saturday was an adventure fit for a book or childrens story. I rode the train downtown, stopped for lunch at Trinity Hall, an Irish Pub, just off the light rail at Mockingbird station where I had to make a readjustment to the plan on the fly.
I decided to go to Mass at the old Cathedral downtown first & then attend an open house at a number of galleries in Deep Ellum. The gallery tour was remarkable. An old warehouse was roughly refurbed into studios & a wide variety & number of artists had there studios open & were ‘entertaining’ gawkers, strollers & the idle.
As one would expect, each was different. One classy studio had a flute player doing solos. Others had fruit, cheese platters & fancy horse ovary trays set up. One had champagne. Which I hadn’t had that this day so I accepted. Then, she asked if I wanted to freshen it up for the road.
REALLY ?
Really.
So there you have it. The rest of the time was Stanley Cup playoffs on the telly or Ancient Aliens. I guess outdoor gardening projects. Seeds, transplanting and such. Getting things started, organized & going in the places they will do best slowly & in an organized fashion is key.
I have four (4) kinds of different tomatoes, five (5) peppers, lettuce & salad greens all in containers, repurposed hanging baskets & two (2) raised bed bags if you will. I don’t think I can completely finish today but I can get closer. In fact 'completion' is not even an option.
I worked on two decoy projects yesterday but only slightly & by design. I applied some of the bright color mix to the bill of a drake wood duck & also did a little fine detail carving on the head of another Bbwd. Mostly the underside of its bill. Much easier to do BEFORE attaching the head to the body. Small work, a little every day or each session is marking & making ‘progress.’
The sun is up now so I can go outside to start putting together todays plan. I am thinking I need to try Emma’s MO doing these computer-oriented tasks & activities during the evening when the day is done rather than my current style of wasting too much time in the early part of the day.
Oh, quick Weather Report… 18 in the sleeping pod this morning, but it is 8 in McKinney. Just like mid-summer in the hills of NY.
Until next time, maintain, sustain & entertain.
