COLONIAL DAY II
AN OFF DAY FOR BILL BUT THE RACE CONTINUES
OK Fans, more on my Goof Off day later but first, a weather report followed by round two action, report & a commentary …
This morning it is cool. As in chilly. But the psychological effect coupled with a mindset of years past, my ‘biological thermostat’ is reading ‘COLD.’
I sleep in, grabbing the complimentary continental breakfast (also ALL COLD) of yogurt, fruit & coffee watched over by a ‘greeter’ way, WAY to happy & friendly, unnaturally friendly, for my personal tastes & liking.
I take my book to the lobby with the comp Ft Worth Star-telegram (daily local paper) & my machine to make ‘camp’ with a most welcome second cup of HOT coffee way too strong. I keep reminding myself that I am NOT home, there is NO PLACE like home and to just deal with it. Which I of course do.
After having spoke to the front desk clerk last night, the one that suggested contacting local IT, I did just that but encountered a number of obstacles. The number I was given this morning was only an extension, the last four digits of the phone number. No problemo one would think.
Perhaps one should NOT think. How about NEVER ASSUME ? How about never say NEVER ?
Long story abbreviated, the exchange was wrong. I was given 921, it was actually 923 when I checked with the new front desk person. The first lady whose wrong number I rang up was real nice explaining politely that this was not IT but a personal residence.
She accepted my apology & life went on.
I also went on to the second extension still initially with the wrong exchange. A voice mail box for a carol lee (or li ?) IDK. Doesn’t matter so no caps.
Same or similar luck with now the correct area code, exchange & extension. And that's no IT.
Undaunted, your digital commando revisits the new front desk clerk and this time I have the main number with ‘suggestion’ to request x-fer (transfer short-hand) to IT. I do, get ‘Gabreil’ who isn’t busy & gets this, will stop over for a look. (!)
Reading the paper, I see an ad that there is a music festival in Arlington tonight with Hayes Carll playing at 8:30.
A big fav of FB & S2, I ring them up & very quickly a Plan solidifies. I book a room at the seminary so they don't needlessly have to drive.
They arrive, we do the Hayes Carll show.
Oh yeah. Back to golf. Leaders shuffle slightly due to rain & from what I see on the telly, things are a mess.
Let’s see what happens on Day III.
