6:30 ALL Day
And it’s 5:00 somewhere AND noon somewhere else.
So tomorrow is June 31 on the calendar according to Bill. It will still be Tuesday and 4 July will be the first recognized day of the month of July. Confused? Just read on.
The FIRST spider lily opened late yesterday afternoon or more accurately early last evening.
Got a cool picture so see the picture of the day.
On the LEFT silly squirrel.
Local slick color mag rag listed ‘spider lily’ as red blossom so I am thinking this (THAT) journalist is only a writer & clueless.
Very uneventful day yesterday. Heat neary unbearable. Mosquitos were a problem outside & inside. Set traps for squirrels
The telly provided no comfort. I finally found a program late on NatGeo on the Flying Lizards of Borneo. A Japanese scholar with the patience of a saint was setting up all kinds of cameras in the jungles of that God forsaken country to capture the flight of these gliding geckos, after DARK.
Pretty interesting. One quick anecdotal was courtship rituals were stopped short or chopped out ( aka 'censored') ever so cleverly before mating behavior & patterns could be observed, explained or witnessed. But no biggie. Only a(n) (un)registered perv would watch such shows for such activity anyway.
On the artistic front, progress to report on the 4 x 8 foot view from Dukes. Project seems now to have gained certifiable momentum. Must keep after it.
I took a bike ride in the mid-afternoon. The second with the ‘new biking shoes.’ And they are going back.
WHAT HAPPENED ??
Well, Va, the ride started poorly as I could not get the shoes attached prperlyTHEN the trip counter distance would not reset to zero. That set things off.
I had the run time & timer going but monitoring all the numbers makes the ride.
Just after the third lap, turning from Lake Forest West on El Dorado, I crashed. Tipped over when it was either run into OR get hit by a car. Both very bad options.
Traffic was heavy at the intersection so I had to jump on the sidewalk around some construction. No easy task with the shoes affixed firmly mechanically to the pedals downshifting. Uphill.
So I an crawling up the sidewalk, look over my left shoulder & a car is about to turn in to my path. I slammed on the brakes, the shoe didn’t release & down I went landing somewhat softly on unmowed grss versus concrete which was a Blessing in disguise or most fortunate depending if you are a believer or not.
The car didn’t stop but when I got myself up a second driver axed if I was OK. I was still going thru checklists thouroughly embarrassed & cursing the gd shoes, all cars & ignorant drivers. The chain was off & it was a mess getting it back on with the road grit, grease & oil on hands & biking gloves.
After gathering my wits, I pressed on choosing to complete the four (4) laps which usually take about an hour but this day certainly not so.
So I am just about done, coming up Lake Forest now headed South & about half-way across, when another car has its signal on to turn & I am in the break of the medium, front & center in the cross hairs. So NOT a position I want to be in.
This time the left shoe releases & I am out of harms way for this time.
So two close calls and I have decided that the shoes go back & the old pedals go back on.
What I lose in efficiency is more than made up for in safety. MUCH more. Where I ride, how I ride & for as often as I ride the shoes are more dangerous than any possible benefit they might provide.
I mean it is only going to take ONE such accident, & today there were TWO near misses.
Decision is made.
When the fun is gone and going for a ride has elements of fear & danger, time for a change.
That’s about enough for today.
I need to find the next book. I do so miss not having something to read before bed & dropping off.
Any ideas? Open to suggestions here now.
Maybe another Philip K Dick & old sci-fi.
Must search home library & book review sections this week.
