Last of July 2015: A Friday
Yeah hi Fans as we say goodbye & good riddance to the passed week & bon jour to the weekend AND new month. A recapitulation & plan(s) follow.
I noticed I skipped a couple of days which should come as no huge surprise as my life does go on over the horizon of this blog. Well beyond.
As mentioned in your previous visit, the tea this morning is the iced, sun estate-blended herbal variety sweetened & Folks, it IS marvy. Just what the MD ordered. Cool, refreshing & just enough sweet.
So Wednesday afternoon I had an interview at the Career Fair. These things are such freak shows. I would take an oath that I could write a full length book describing the odd assortment of God’s creatures that show up for such events. Only one briefest example. OK, perhaps two. But later.
Thursday, yesterday, the Dallas Tech-Security Conference was a most pleasant surprise & well worth the ticket. It was free to IEEE members & I noticed the event in a weekly broadcast ‘junk’ mailing. The event was put on by Data Connectors at the DoubleTree Hilton. The venue, exhibits, presentations were all very well done & informative. As the day wore on, like after lunch, things started to slip & one presenter had not fully mastered the English language & I found him difficult to follow & understand. A look at the sessions following found marginal interest so I left the building after the 2:30 session ended. Picked up a little swag, much literature in the form of brochures for future reading material.
Speaking of reading material,
NICE …
Anyway, thanks for following along interruption junction.
I finished Absolute Friends. John Le Carre is still a fav and what a great summer time read. A slow, even paced tale, I’ll do a book report & post it here later today unless the world collapses. So seek out the ENTERTAINMENT tab, look for BOOKS.
Back to the Career Fair real quick. I actually had an interview. A young black man, a supervisor, did the actual interview & I guess it went well. Having been on that side of the table doing the interviewing and now as an applicant is very strange to say the least. I guess it went well. The job is the lowest of entry level, pay stinks & they axed if part-time evenings scared me. I learned to lie & said something like Hell yeah. They do train for about a week, have nice benefits, it is close to home so the commute would not be nerve-racking and there are plenty of opportunities to & for advancement. So one must see beyond the immediate unpleasantnesses for brighter & greener pastures.
Which brings us to the weekend. God knows where Va is & neither He nor she is letting on. Patty is jetting off to MN, that’s Minny not to be confused with Minnie as in mouse, for the weekend so the slate is wide open, clean & green. Plans still developing. Patty’s birthday is Monday so I need to pick up something along the line of a gift.
Long bike rides to continue HH100 training early each morning. Not sure but two (2) hours as a minimum and no longer that four (4) yet at this point with the race now four weeks away.
The lawn will NOT need to be mowed this weekend. The heat has slowed down growth sufficiently & twice a week watering maintains status quo.
Mass Saturday. Laundry. Artistic projects should keep me out of the bars, trouble & jail.
Enjoying the fennel seeds. Actually slipped & chewed four (4) yesterday at the conference. I played with them with my tongue, front teeth before crushing then with the molars & swallowing. I can honestly say that there were no documented cases of flatulence that afternoon. These things are a rediscovered miracle.
OK. Got to go.
The pool boy is here & I need to fully plan the trip out today. Maybe lunch with some unsuspecting soul.
TIME OUT: 10:28 am
Later PM & into early evening …
REAL Quick update. Ran out for errands in the heat as mentioned and very UN-comfy.
Highlights were lunch with a friend and a shop stop at local Sprouts. I literally bumped into an elderly gentleman, we shall call him Steve, patrolling the Bulk Foods section. Interesting sort of chap and engaged in a marginally lengthy chat on various & multiple subjects & topics. Yes, he does go there often as he likes the place. He shared some good intel on dark chocolate & directed me to THEE best deal.
I went to Sprouts for a single item on sale according to their weekly flyer. So I bought pistascio nuts, some Brazil nuts but only a few @$ 9.99/lb, large pieces of black licorice but again a very small quantity and after Steve’s short dissertation on dark chocolate I bought a larger scoop of the dark chocolate coated cranberries which I thought I was being grand larceny at $3.99 per lb. I mean this is two superfoods COMBINED for almost the price of a gallon of gas !!
I was so delighted I purchased also a six pack of Kona Castaway IPA for the next journey & between stops. I find it much more relaxing to drive with refreshment.
Checking out at Sprouts was another treat. I went to & stood in the longer line as I noticed the checker was vaguely familiar from a previous visit & it was. Kimberly was a fun exchange. Cute & real. Great sense of humor. Sparkling eyes, maintained smile but genuine. An over-abundance of gray but she was confident & content enough not to have to cover it up. And a large sparkler on fourth finger of left hand.
We chatted daringly, flirted harmlessly & exchanged smiles in the most & very benign fashion whilst she rang me up before I settled (down ? or) up & checked out.
‘Enjoy your beer.’ she smiled as I left.
If she only knew.
Until next time.
