COLONIAL DAY IA: The Pro-am
VERY early Wednesday am, VERY early. I am in position and on station WIDE awake and trying to make myself sleepy & tired at 2:09 AM. No doubt there is great anticipation, excitement & expectation looking forward to the upcoming week, the potential for great events & stories not the least of which will be the forecast of inclement weather.
I have already read some of Paul Johnson’s account of history of modern society and that failed to nudge me over the edge.
I fired up this confounded machine in an attempt to return to dreamland and eventually this WILL HAPPEN. It is just a question of time.
I made a full & honest attempt to log on to the guest wi-fi last night and actually made it, TWICE, but the connection couldn't or wouldn't remain stable for God only knows why. So I simply shelved the idea & moved on.
Tasking now is blog updates, some admin & then come correspondence to induce sleep.
7:49 PM
Well, today was nearly a certified bust. When I went out to Silver to head for the course, she started but nearly immediately something went wrong and the engine stalled. Then COMPLETELY DEAD.
So I switch into crisis management mode, full bore, but remain calm at all costs refusing to panic or get unraveled.
To shorten the story and in some semblance of order, calls to Liberty Mutual roadside assistance, the tournament committee for a heads-up before cancelling out-right, a security guard for an unsuccessful attempt at a jump start Silver, locating a RELIABLE mechanic nearby while waiting for the tow truck to show up, calling again LM to make sure the mechanic of choice was acceptable & suitable to the insurance company for payment AND finally the tow truck showed up.
When the dust settled, I was just down the street from the seminary, the shop & mechanic were great & I was back at the course at about 11:00 for lunch. The shop took the AmEx card so all good there,
Since I missed my time & group, I volunteered and made myself useful doing whatever needed to be done like helping with the signs. The afternoon went by fast.
Jimmy, Dave & I went out after a couple of beers & watched the pro-am group of Jordan Spieth & actor/comedian Bill Murray. Murray was a hoot. Got a couple of good shots on the practice green putting before the battery went dead. The highlight was getting to 13 to watch the group play the raucous party hole.
Back at the room after getting my time & group for tomorrow, I was able to read, relax & rest up.
The group Wednesday is three (3) lesser knowns and we go off at 12:18 so I can sleep in & get to the course at a leisurely pace. Prospects for rain are high so the tournament could get ugly before Sunday & the event is over for this year.
Bill out.
