21 September 2016. Forth entry

Forth for the month of September to be clear. This is the third of four consecutive days of from what is now my real day job and to follow are some noteworthy accomplishments, comings & goings.

Adventures in Gardening: Composting

So yesterday I am playing in the backyard nano-jardins, getting hanging baskets filled & stabilized for some vegetables, when I get a mild shock. There is some dirt in a plastic recycling bin I have been using to collect used potting soil, dirt and such and when the little hand shovel/spade (can I even say spade ?) overturns some dirt uncovered is this crazy wiggler. So violent were its movements that I received a brief startle.

On closer review, and abbreviating the story graciously, I pulled and placed into a smaller separate container all these vicious wigglers I could find & pull out of this container & placed then carefully into the larger compost bin to improve the efficiency there.

Pretty cool huh ?

Also yesterday, complete sales of two (2) separate tropical fish. What should have totaled $130 after discounts & barter adjustment amounted to $90. Not bad but short for making a dent into monthly living expenses.

Today’s image is the sergeant major. Ubiquitous reef fish and hopefully seed as it is a birthday gift for a collector and the giver is a potential ‘marketing arm’ for tropical fish & other work. (Think face book)

As this customer was short on cash and apparently not impressed with my new credit card trannie capability, I agreed to a lessor selling price. The only good news is that is could pay off larger in the long run than immediately.

So in the evening I began three more fish in the earliest stages.

But before that, working thru-out the day in the garage studio, I worked conceptualizing two (2) bases for completed tropical fish and the MAST 3-D display at the McK library. I really need a second opinion which one to go with which is why dos.

Both are stunning in their own way but I am now looking for the more or most stunning. Does that even make sense ?

So today, more of the same.

The sprinkler repair guy, SORRY, home irrigation specialist, is scheduled for a call today. Seems that swapping the two (2) sprinkler heads did not work by themselves and more work is required.

Time for Bill to bail on that one.

I don’t know if I mentioned here but my good friend, carving buddy & artist Cal passed away. Very sad. I must swing by there today & just check in on his wife with a little basket. I sent a card immediately but a small token & follow up would be a good thing to do.

Also yesterday it was uncomfortably warm. Three cheers for global warming. I was in & out of the cement pond 4 or 5 times.

Walt stopped around and we joked that it was like jumping into a spring-fed mountain lake as the cooler overnights have dropped the water temperature down from bath water, to Caribbean and now to mountain lake. Very refreshing.

Some frontal yard work today. Trimming & edging before the HOA nazis issue a ‘friendly reminder.’

I guess that’s it for the time being.

Out of coffee, out of energy, out of ideas and out of time for today.

Have a great day and May God Bless.
