Ides of March: 2018
It’s finally here. Entering now yet another pagan festival, feast or fiesta. It all depends what you wish to call this particular cause for ‘celebration.’ Spring ? Starting NOW, culminating in Saint Patrick’s day, well, celebrate responsibly like it’s 1952.
Life is grand, live large and o NOT look back.
I thought I was going to have more time this morning but I am already wrong. SO wrong. I have used my one (1) allotted mistake.
The soleil is rising and is warming the conservatory most pleasantly making a small fire not necessary & wasteful thsi day.
HOW’S YOUR MOM ?
Hi Nancy.
I spoke to her this morning & she must be improving as she is complaining about the level of care she is receiving at the new place.
SO WHAT WAS THE TUNE ?
Well there IS one in every crowd. Surprised you didn’t recognize the line from the classic tune White Room. Original super-group, combo-trio Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton & Ginger Baker pounding the skins. What a GREAT line.
I hear that line and it brings back memories. Mostly bad so moving along …
A terrific bike ride yesterday and now the weight is starting to drop off nicely. Down to 173 this morning and by Easter the goal is 170. The probability for warmer days and longer rides is going to be close. When the rides switch from 'laps' to 'hours' the odds will drop to 'very likely'.

Today’s image is the COMPLETED Achilles tang (Acanthurus achilles) sculpture. A major work and worth a closer look.
The circular base is Brazillian cherry I traded for and when you look at or see it, IF you know wood and can appreciate its finer points, it is truly spectacular. The grain is even, very rich, thick & most importantly for THIS piece of work, heavy. It took the finish exceptionally well and is beautiful as presented.
The ‘habitat’, is a three-sided cross between a pyramid & a cone. One side is natural and the ‘as is’ condition which if you are having trouble the more rounded side. The second side was the major cut with the large saw and sanded down mostly smooth but not completely. Leaving a few of the deeper tool marks is INTENTIONAL. The holes are to reposition the fish carving and appear as well on the final side.

The scalloped effect was achieved with a reciprocating Foredom tool gouged to inspire a wavy watery effect.
REPOSITIONING THE FISH
The life size Achilles tang can be moved and repositioned around the circular base and with a shorter ¼ inch dowel inserted into the spire on the two sides as mentioned.
There is another fish from the same pattern now under work coming down the ‘production line.’
Species for final coloration at this point is TBD. I do have another circular Brazillian cherry base on order so only a spectacular habitat is required. I now need that second artistic consult on this sort of thing.
With this major piece, I need to do the sheet for the descriptor for lamination and presentation at point of sale.
WHAT IS POINT OF SALE ?
Great question. I didn’t expect such an intelligent question form you.
POS for this piece would first be at the Woodlands show at Market Street if I get in which I should.
This will be one of the images submitted for approval & my entry along with a few others for the one-day show in September.
If it doesn’t sell, which I doubt, I will happily keep if and offer it at MAST in November.
WHAT IT NOT THEN ?
Easy. Just make it part of the permanent display at one of the galleries.
AND WHAT IS THE ASKING PRICE ?
Out of time for now.
Remind me next time.
TOMORROW ?
Too soon to tell. 3/16/18 ... IDK. Can't decide right now.
