Monday 4 30 … All day
Intermittent sunshine & clouds and once again cool(er) in the morning. This day is starting to warm and it is very nice at the moment however it will go to the extreme here very shortly as the season change rushes to completion.
Monday Morning & weekend madness which you (apparently) survived OR managed to avoid (perhaps) is demanding a recapitulation.
Whenever you THINK things couldn’t get any weirder … IT DOES … ‘
What we gonna do about this NOW ?? Kemo sabe ?
Well Tonto, it seems pedophilia was trendy even back then. Let’s just keep our eyes peeled and see what the main streamers as in media pick it up or not. We’ll know then what to do.
Masked man always know right thing to do. First time. No questions. Tonto like.
I nearly went back and issued a ‘correction’ but since I never make such mistakes, I decided to just issue an apology (minor) for simply missing an ‘opportunity’.
This came about while discovering some unidentifiable lint in my umbilical opening since healed.
The date missed was 20 A. APPARENTLY to dopers or stoners who are also known as rastifarian wanna-bees, the date OR time 4/20 or 4:20 is ‘magic’ along the lines of ‘tea-time’ as observed in the United Kingdom.
Oh well. Maybe next year but I see this as a minor ‘proof’ that such ‘holidays’ are slowly catching on. Perhaps.
A great day yesterday. I got in an extended training ride of two (2) hours and in spite of a strong wind, had a faster than expected time for the first such ride of this length. I rode 47km or averaged 23.5k/hr which to me reasoning was remarkable and a very strong opening performance for the season and certainly without question something to build on.
It put me in a good frame of mind for reference and provided energy, inertia and momentum to finish the day.
I did some gardening and set about making a worthy Sunday afternoon supper using the second tail of lobster. See 28 A report for additional details.
Seafood or more specifically lobster salad with Parm bread stick and a nice bottle of the white wine, room temperature, from the cellar that was SO magnifique, I held back about half the tail for another round today or if it keeps until Wednesday that is OK as well. I am learning the HARD way that lobster MAY NOT be the best thing to keep refrigerated for later consumption. I awoke in the night with a bit of a GI ‘event or issue’ of the least serious type blaming it on the tasty crustacean.
Two (2) hours in the saddle did NOT demand a hot bath followed by a Tuck’s pad however was most comforting and welcome. I MUST do a commercial for Tuck’s. The over-looked but always appreciated relief where the sun seldom shines. The SOOTHING witch hazel calms, cools and shrinks (apparently) those little inflamed buggers.
Afterwards, I watched a very good movie that actually held my interest. Pierce Brosnon, fka ‘James Bond’ but now labeled a fruit of some sort, in a ‘cyber-thriller’ called I.T. I actually think I will watch it again (I KNOW !!) as I MAY HAVE nodded off and fallen asleep. But it was good. Recommended by Bill.
This morning I located & secured a now much-needed piece of wood-working equipment. The adapter power cord to my wood burning tool started acting up Saturday and finally a small part melted making proper connecting impossible. A place up the road (75) has one heavy duty cord that Wanda confirmed, will hold & I will pick up Wednesday morning. So I will be back in business on that front again soon this week.
Yesterday in the time gap known as Sunday afternoon, I painted on the three (3) Achilles tangs. I made some serious progress TOWARDS completion but actually not done yet.
I did take a second bike ride to Sprouts to get more of the Parmesan bread sticks for supper. Gas prices have jumped up disgustingly so a ride was good on a couple of fronts.
I was felling so good about myself, conditions & my situation I decided a celebratory cocktail might just be in order but Sprouts didn’t sell Coke. I stopped at a corner 7-11 and looked hard for a solo single 12 oz can but that particular & specific package was not offered or available.
Then I saw ‘Coke’ in glass made with sugar cane. Labeled at local K-Roget as ‘Mexican Coke’ which IF I were Mexican, I would be offended but in this case NOT.
Anyway, it was over-priced at $1.59 but I splurged. I took one bottle and the black lady scanned it, rang it up $1.72 which got under my skin. Tax on this ? Afterwards I wanted to get mean & nasty but let it go. She really had an attitude but I think she was NOT a real African American but either a naturalized citizen or simply an illegal.
I fully expect she will go to hell sometime. Eventually. Maybe or HOPEFULLY sooner than later.
OK. I am wasting away the morning and I must get to some legitimate work-work. Either carving, painting or planning. Or looking for a job.
ARE YOU NUTS ?? YOU HAVE IT MADE … !!
Oh I know. But it SOUNDS good coming from ME.
Finances look OK this morning but that or those things can jump up BIG TIME suddenly and create unbudgeted expenses with little to no notice.
I finished Jungle of Stone this morning and must write author William Carlsen and express my extreme pleasure with his effort and work. Truly it was one of those books that the end came up much too quickly. Being very interested in the topic & subjects it was all understandable. My plan is to ask him a couple of things.
First, of the vast collection of footnoted sources, which would HE recommend as THEE BEST follow up reading for an amateur Maya scholar & archaeologist to read on this subject. Stephens accounts were spectacular and the art & drawings of Frederick Catherwood stunning.
Then to wrap up the correspondence I MUST be cautious & careful. I found a few errors that I would point out to him for follow up printings to correct. One is in the caption of a picture that to me was glaring. Something was just wrong so I looked for closer study.
It looked odd requiring a second longer look as the image was labeled the Nunnery at Chichen-Itza.
Having been there and being overwhelmed by the shear size of the Nunnery, this was not correct. I found in one of the books I bought on my first trip and I am and WAS correct.
The structure is misidentified and the correct name is the Nunnery ANNEX. So square gets the circle but partial credit only according to the judges.
It will be interesting to see what Mr Carlsen comes back with. I have already written him twice & he has replied within a day or two. Technology in the hands of cognizant intelligent life DOES work AND has its advantages so stay tuned.
Next up ... How to Fix the Future by Andrew Keen. I ordered this one on Amazon with reward points and it arrived last week in anticipation.
Working further on the children’s story about Winston the lost little duckling. That is coming along swimmingly. Sorry.
Range time this afternoon after 2:00 when Rick reports for work at Watters Creek. Rick is a reader and expressed an interest in Jungle of Stone. He traveled to Belize in November and actually toured Chocoban. I had not heard of this site at all and when I looked it up it is actually in Quintana Roo (Mexico) and has made the revised and updated list of ‘Sites to Visit’ on a future trip. This next travel will be undertaken with much caution and care as conditions for travelers has taken a turn for the worse recently so such travel could be ill-advise here in the near-term.
So I keep plugging along.
There you have it. I am at the end and DOA.
WOW !! Over 1200 words … a LONG ONE even by Bill’s standards.
