Day II 2018 Ft Worth Invitational
Back to the grind today Fans & Patrons but you know what,? As bad as it sounds, it could have been worse and everyone survived. I must admit tho that starting at 12:44 with the heat of the day about to peak and to look forward to was not promising nor delightful but nonetheless a challenge to be attacked.
There was a late change to the pairing as reported earlier in this vehicle. Jimmy Walker was replaced by Nick Whatney who would become a 'new friend' but NOT on fb, twitter, ig or even WhatsApp as you shall see in a minute.
It is getting late so let’s jump in.
Whatney started +9 and from the first tee shot one (this one anyway) could tell he was neither sharp nor crisp. On #4, he made bogey to go +10 so I asked his caddie and he told me it was ‘fine’ NOT to put his score up on the sign so the threesome became a twosome for the rest of the day as far as my scoring went. I was asked by patrons and other volunteers ‘why no score?’ for Whatney so I explained.
Everybody or anyone that has played this crazy game for any length of time has been there. Your OUT even BEFORE or worse, shortly after starting. But one MUST persevere as the young hatchling Winston but that's another past story.
Jim Furyk for the second time offered a slightly different prospective. Very quiet, reserved & shy by nature, and now I understand Captain of an American Ryder cup or Presidents cup team and fans from the gallery were hooting such things. It MIGHT have seemed to his annoyance but he showed little to no reaction or acknowledgement true to form.
His caddie, Mike aka ‘Fluff’ by nearly everyone else he of the large mustache and former caddie for one eldrick woods, gave me a ball so second time with JF, FIRST ball from 2008 WINNING Ryder Cup player for the museum & shrine back at the cloud. This was a highlight to point.
Russell Knox started (-2) and the young Englishman was a superb player and an impressive gentleman. Even tho he ended the day at (-2) shooting even par, it was conversations with his caddie and a small gesture by Mr Knox at the end that was very cool.
He came out of the scorers room with two signed balls and approached me saying I could have an extra one and in the time I had on his retina told him I would give the second one to a youngster at which he smiled and gave me a pat on the shoulder.
Then What gave me a few minutes and I expressed solace in his unfortunate day and encouraged him to better days.
But to the leaderboard …
Justin Rose and Emiliano Grillo held up and the two (2) foreigners are 1-2 at -10 & -9, respectively. Ilike both of these guys and if neither one falters, it should be a great finish.
Kevin Na drops to (-5) as I told you so T6 with a group including 3-timer Ben Crane.
Charley Hoffman plummeted to T15 at (-4) shooting 73 (+3).
At -2 tied for T34 are Russel Knox and South African Louis Oo.
That's all I have time for.
Tomorrow, Saturday we go to twosomes, much easier to track, at 10:50. The group is two lesser-knowns J.T. Poston and Derek Fathauer who are tied (T23) with a group at -3.
Oh, nearly forgot.
This is a BIG DEAL.
In a small presentation ceremony, I received my 15-year pin which is the image today.
Cheers.
