Day III 2018 Ft Worth Invitational
Very exciting and much fun on Moving day aka Saturday. Conditions harsh to severe, scenery improves and the band reassembles.
Walking in, I am carrying the second Russell Knox signed ball looking for the right little one to give it to. As I get close to the first tee box, I spot a little guy about 5 or 6 walking with his Dad. He is wearing a black ball cap and from the back it has a small Batman logo embroidered over the adjustment band.
‘Hey Batman’ I say. No answer.
A little louder this time ‘Batman.’ I am thinking I would have worn just such a cap back in the day.
This time he & his Dad turn and I said in my best pirate voice or mean grandpa ‘Yeah, I’m talking to you.’
‘Would you like an autographed golf ball?’ and offer him the ball after giving his Father a look for approval.
‘Sure.’ He reached out to accept the ball. ‘Now I have two’
I growl ‘Well give it back. I’ll give it to another kid.’
He started to hand it back and I said ‘that’s OK, you can keep it. It’s from Russell Knox and he is about to start off of the first hole’ and he was. I happened to notice glancing at the pairing sheet walking in. So that was a cool way to start the day.
While still feeling the smile I look up just in time to AVOID bumping into a little guy wearing an NBC Sports polo recognizing Brandel Chamblee and saying 'hi'. I would have liked to complimented him on his running eldrick woods commentaries.
Unlike the first 2-3 days where no one seemed to be in the building for whatever reasons, today there were old friends commiserating, having beers, snacks and swapping stories.
Word spread I was with Bill Murray for the pro-am so those stories were in demand and well received by the envious.
LOOK SWAMI, WE DON’T HAVE MUCH TIME SO CAN YOU FINISH THE REPORT POR FAVOR?
Of course but you do realize YOU are stealing one of MY lines ?
Today’s pairing was JT Poston and Derek Fathauer each beginning the day -3. There is no pronunciation guide necessary for ’Poston.' However it is 'Fath' as in rhyming with ‘path’+ our (or hour). Not my first guess ‘Fat hauer’ but I stood corrected.
After a slow start, pardon me, each got hot. Poston drained a long putt on #8 and Fathauer knocked in a shorter one and they kept on going. On the third hole a Rules official drove up in a cart & warned both players to 'speed up' play. as Fathy was very slow with his pre-shot routine.
My scorer this day, Doreen, even mentioned it. I mean the guy was obsessed with the yardage booklet. I mean even on the green he would consult the booklet and making notes. If not that then he was screwing putting his glove on or taking it off. Just maddening. When one is standing in the sunshine. Not so bad when one can find some shade.
I am starting to fade here Fans as I watch the replay of today's action on the Golf channel. I just learned that it was 38 (100) today and yes, I knew it was warm.
Anyway ...
Justin Rose stretched his lead by 4 to -14 and Argentine Emiliano Grillo remains in second but tied
now at -10.
Nick Faldo as an analyst is poor to pathetic and should be somewhere else doing anything else. Such a self-centered ego-driven arse hole would be hard to phantom.
On the other hand, Ian Baker (-Finch) should have more air time. Much more gracious, polite AND knowledgeable.
South African Louie Oost and JT Poston from today are T4 at -8 and the grouping bunches up. John Rahm from Spain also in -8.
I just saw myself on TV !! I SAW MYSELF ON TV !!
They showed a Poston highlight shot and I was on telly for a moment. Look quick Mom ...!!
So we sipped a few beers and got caught up before dispersing. Jerry & I are going to plan a visit to his house later this summer tomorrow. Granbury has a number of art shows during the summer so we are going to coordinate so I can check it out and set up maybe next year or in the future since I would have a place to stay.
He also got a bass boat so we just might do some fishing.
Back in the room a shower was a much welcome relief and some fruit and fluids hits the spot. Some telly is a treat but muting all the ads & commercials.
Tomorrow at 10:55 I draw a stellar group of bigger names. Charley Hoffman for the second maybe third time and Rickey Fowler who both will begin play at -5 each slipping into T21 along with Kevin Na as in 'I told you so' while my buddy Russell Knox improved his position and moved UP to T21 at -5.
It’s going to be a good day tomorrow scooter and it really won’t matter if it is hotter than a bike ride in August or not.
HH100 get it ?
