Dos equis Julio 18

OK, so it’s the 24th and I can’t waste or get 'dos equis' out of my mind responsibly. Besides, I have used the ‘24’ image repeatedly so in a rare maneuver, a different type of update follows.

As Jack Webb would say, just the facts and highlights … por favor. Ma'am.

To say things have been crazy is about a light-year short of an understatement.

So where to start?

It’s been a week TOMORROW since we last commed so under 1000 words is the GOAL.

Long training ride yesterday (23 Jy) which wiped me out for most of the day. Rested, took fluids and read. Could not focus sufficiently to paint at all. Did not even get into the cement pond above the ankles and that was late after the sun had set.

I did reach the training goal of 104 K (65m) as the wind as tough but I was determined to finish this week after last week’s impossible conditions. And I did but paid only a small toll.

Off today and the shorter 24 k (15m) tomorrow. Should be a breeze and will be able to plan more activities AND accomplish at LEAST some of them barring being struck by a vehicle.

The Edwin Hubble biography is picking up. Fascinating read and the pace has markedly increased as I am within the last 100 pages. Hubble & his wife Grace had a most enviable relationship and as a result interesting life. They hob-knobbed with a wide circle of the rich, well-connected & impressive luminaries of the day and Hubble himself was a ‘rock star’ as an astronomer. He was quite outspoken in his support of WWII and even called people idiots openly in speeches in the book were ‘idiots’ which I for some reason I took comfort in and to me was refreshing.

Over the weekend I was watching a little of the British Open with S1 (Br12) and he ‘reminded’ me that I needed to ‘behave’ and start being just a little ‘more careful’ about some of my speech and actions.

‘Afterall, I could end up 'shamed' on youtube going ‘viral’ …’. Truly the very least of my worries.

FB & her brood traveled to the Gulf Coast this time in AL for a Family reunion. Great pictures and she called late on the way home and talked my EARS off (both) for nearly an hour.

Tonight is the monthly covered dish supper at Saint Michael’s and the theme is Mexican food. My game plan is a large container of ceviche and chips from El Rancho.

I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING YOU MAKE ?

No, not this time. Besides, I have noticed other buy items which is kind of cheating IMO but no one has inquired of late.

OK. I really need to work on the website next.

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning with the new guy and he is OK. Very complicated and we discussed government involvement in health care and anyone thinking REMOTELY that the government could run that little venture successfully should be SHOT at the NEXT sunrise. OR SUNSET whichever is sooner.

I am at the APL and the wi-fi seems sufficient enough to do the upgrades faster & easier than at home using the ‘smart-phone’ as the hot spot. AND the AC is set about 20 (68 F) or something that seems as frigid. Not a bad place to be hanging out on an off day.

So there you have it.

Emma, sorry I haven’t gotten back to your personal messages. You are still on the list for prayers and all I can say is I will make better attempts to get something out at the next opportunity. But I don’t know when that might be for as you are fighting to get & remain WARM, right now warmth is the LEAST worry here.

Trying to get cool and stay cool is wearing people out that cannot obtain relief. The poor souls at the edge and margins of society are really & truly suffering.

I saw a homeless man outside El Rancho just sitting in the shade, drinking a Coca-cola (no Makers) and what were probably all of his worldly possessions in either a small backpack or plastic grocery sack.

I said a prayer for him as well.
