Cinco de Mayo 2019
Another brilliant Sunday morning here at the cloud aka the Palace on Pecan Hill. The sun is up, clear, calm and cool (surprise) estimating the temperature to be around 15-16. Most pleasant.
Big day yesterday with the Derby and now today Cinco de Mayo so back-to-back celebrations. Stars COULD wrap up Round 2 win a game 6 win at home today at 2:00 so let’s all hope tomorrow breaks as well as today.
So yesterday in a rare Saturday meeting I was downtown on the square. Bumped into Magda the Gypsy fortune teller. While parking Silver I see on the ground a post card announcement for a ‘Derby’ event at local restaurant ‘Sugarbacon’ so after the meeting stopped in as I had never been, heard some good things and decided to celebrate and see what this Derby event was all about.
I was inside from the bright sunlight and was instantly but temporarily blinded by the darkness. When I was able, a perusal revealed most of the clientele was outside under the covered patio more interested in being seen or watching the horse races.
I bellied up to the deserted bar and the barmaid, an attractive and friendly lass with hoop earrings large enough to fly a small Cessna thru, took my order for the advertised special mint julep after some short, intense flirtatious banter.
The house music was a vile mix of 70’s & 80’s which I was able to block out as I practiced lip-reading from Churchill Downs on telly. There was one short race then at normal delay and two belles came in looking like they just teleported in via a wayback machine from Kentucky complete with hats and long dresses. Yes, I noticed.
At a break I invited them down to sit and have a better angle to view the large screen action which they of course did.
RIGHT. GO ON.
I will but not for long.
So Amanda axes how was the mint julep and I requested another but this time to my (aka the customer’s) specs.
‘Double Makers’ to which she said no problem and promptly delivered.
After a couple of sips I am now ROARING.
OH GOD !!
That’s enough.
There was another post card announcing a Cinco de Mayo special on Sunday and I asked Amanda about it. She is working but they are only open from 11-3 so a very short window to take advantage of high dollar, top-shelf tequila cocktails.
YOU ARE GETTING BOLD OLD BOY.
I understand and realized that the waters were getting deeper quickly so I split. It's ALL ABOUT drinking RESPONSIBLY.
Afterall, I DID have other things to do around the cloud and where I was headed was nothing but trouble opting to ride, read and write another day.
Happy Cinco di Mayo amigos and amigas !
WAIT ... WEREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE IN HOUSTON FOR SOME SHOW?
It was cancelled Friday morning due to weather forecast which failed to be accurate. Rain date this NEXT Saturday 11 My. I am not even going to unload Silver. I mean it is packed.
Thanks for asking AND paying attention.
