Colonial: Pro-am
The annual outing is here and greetings from a windy Fort Worth and the Colonial CC. I arrived yesterday, early evening after an uneventful journey over. With the exception of timing the evening rush hour PERFECTLY and the great number of idiots that are issued drivers licenses, I carried on.
I packed a cooler with the few perishable items that would rot while I was gone. I checked in and Blake the front desk clerk was an engaging and outgoing young man. We chatted for a bit pleasantly before I got all my gear to 113 and parked Silver for the night.
I didn’t sleep very well and I think caffeine was to blame. Looking for a better night tonight.
HEY, CAN WE GET TO THE GOLF ALREADY?
The group of four (4) hacks who shall remain nameless, mercifully, put on a shameless exhibition of swat, hope and chase. The pro for the front nine (9) was John Rahm world-ranked #3 and he turned out to be a stand-up and most likable guy. He played very well and just smashed the ball. He cheered on his teammates and encouraged them on a few occasions sincerely and to his credit. I would find it extremely difficult to be sociable, friendly and courteous to such twerps.
On number ten (10), Rahm was replaced by Scott Stallings. Stallings took advantage of a rule change and wore shorts which allowed him to blend in and made tracking him that much more difficult.
Stallings played OK and was far from impressive.
The scorer was Debbie. A petite older lady, quiet and reserved. She was friendly, articulate and intelligent. She was retired from ATT, one child, a daughter, 34, unmarried, who lived in Dallas. She told me afterwards she was heavy-set packing on the ‘freshman 15’ while at college each of the four years and might be tipping the scales at around 200 lbs. She said she was gorgeous but by now my attention was lost and just enjoyed chatting with her. She and her husband were doing a lot of travelling in a mobile home and were going on a European river cruise in June.
Debbie had a delightful sense of humor and we joked, flirted and laughed. On 11 she told me she needed to find some shade as she had had skin cancer for a number of years. Spots on her head, ears which I guess are on the head, hands, arms and had even had grafts all over.
We got done just in time to catch the tail end of the lunch buffet and sat together and carried on the chat mostly because there were so few others in the building. She even drank a beer !
Tomorrow we ride at 12:33 so sleeping in and more rest as well as having the breakfast here will make tomorrow a bit better. I MAY head over early and stop to shop at a couple of my favorite places and that’s right I’m talking about Pottery Barn and J Crew.
OK. Fading fast now and looking forward to a better night of rest and sleep.
Today's image was stolen and endured Debbie to my Christmas card list because we had talked about it earlier in the round. She got Rahm’s attention and hastily took what turned out to be a pretty good picture if such a thing can happen to yours truly at this point and stage of life. We were struggling to get the camera up & on my phone open due to problems with glare and she just whipped hers out and got the picture.
I was impressed and truly grateful.
