15 Nov
Ides of Nov. Survived another weekend and up early checking numbers, creating plans and making ready for the future.
DOES THAT MAKE YOU A FUTURIST?
Well I suppose it does in the loosest sense and in this day and age if YOU want to RUN with the ‘self-anointers’ there is
NO reason NOT to refer to yourself as such.
I am, however not.
A fabulous weekend and the challenge of starting a whole new week is just a head in the road coming up like a speed bump.
This time we will use the ‘cool’ scale for prioritizing and selection.
Yesterday your correspondent and reporter of such urban adventures set out on a mission investigating an art show in nearby Addison (Tx). I learned from the ZAPP weekly broadcast newsletter of this local show and I actually WROTE this event on my paper calendar to check out months ago. Suddenly it was here and I had to go and check it out.
But first I MADE PLANS.
IS THIS GOING TO BE A FOREVER ACCOUNT?
No not at all. I can end it RIGHT NOW so YOU can sit down and hold your tongue unless you DON’T want me to finish.
Just stop reading and begin your day polishing the silverware or your BMW or start a new bottle of whine.
Anyway, I set out for Addison for I knew where that was and only loosely and vaguely used the PDA aka ‘smartphone’to get there near the end. I had time and when I needed a location check, I stopped Silver when I got closer to the venue eventually parking very close and free.
Once inside the large Marriott I had a low degree of difficulty of locating the rooms. I explored the lobby and ground floor and in the process found a sign directing traffic to the show.
The American football game with the local team was playing on every screen so I KNEW a large segment of the population would be so transfixed and I proceeded.
At the entry, I was accosted for a ticket. I told them I was 65 and entry was in fact as advertised ‘FREE’.
For your benefit Ms Bold Caps I am going to summarize the rest of the visit. Probably put this down and pick it up again later perhaps even this evening OR run the risk of renaming the entry.
Many good artists a few of them even great.
Some interesting people and a few Characters.
There was a lady working dexterously with fabric and rope to make sculptures. These were colorful and pretty much only decorative but my mind was wondering if something useful and functional could be made or done with the process.
There were two (2) artists from McK one I had known previously and the second I had not met.
There were two (2) from OKC I spoke at greater length with each interesting.
Brad was a retired engineer that taught physics for a number of years. He had been only painting for a couple of years and his wife got him started. His work was of a higher caliber so I made a complimentary wise crack about his wife and guess who walks around the corner?
Yep. Mrs Brad.
We had a lively 3-way chat and I learned Brad had a rare ‘affliction’ called synathesia. I have not looked it up yet but delegate the task to Emma for a short report. I MAY get time later to look it up however at the time I felt I was being pulled down a whirling swirling wormhole by this unlikely pair and had to move along for I had no intention of buying.
There was a lively photographer from Lubbock of all places. She had a calendar of her work she was selling and note cards nearly identical but very similar to the ones I have. But better images naturally. We started talking about the big show in Lubbock of which I made the initial inquiry. Most appealing as it was indoors and she said that she is now only doing the indoor shows. After the wind advisory and delay in Galveston which really wasn’t THAT bad, I can see or imagine it being much and FAR worse. Therefore indoor shows have rocket up the list of priorities when planning.
So on the way out I met with Chris the organizer and fearless leader and we had a good chat. He took a card and will add me to his electronic distribution for future shows.
On the way home I stopped at Watters Creek to spend some time to work on my putting. You see the practice putting green at Oak Hollow is under construction for a Spring opening so that aspect of the game is lacking. But the putting touch is not that difficult getting back under the current set of circumstances.
HOWEVER there was a clinic being held, kids everywhere and there was not a spot on teh practice green to be had.
Back at the car there was a text message waiting from S1 and a time for a playoff game in Allen which fit very nicely into my schedule for the evening. The Bulldogs won a very good game 1-0 to advance the lone goal early in the first period.
The Bulldog goalie was huge in both senses. Such a large unit standing in front of the goal actually made the goal LOOK SMALL. Couple that size with agility he not only kept the Bdogs in the game but won it for them.
This mornings emails were a funny mp.4 video and a note from my new BFFs at Substack. The word ‘million’ leaped out at me and it turned out they now have one (1) million PAID subscribers. The message also contained the fluff how they (Substack) are launching careers and touting the benefits of their service. Etcetera
I only hope that the vision I am having is not an outright hallucination.
Smart money is that such things take time to develop and from my perspective and according to my plan, the train is on track and rolling so carrying on.
Now write this one down.
Keep chugging and plugging along for in the long run one does arrive. Quitters jumping off early never reach their destination.
The world is full of quitters.
Kick any rock and at least one, likely more, will scurry from underneath.
Don’t give up. Never give up.
