Bill, WILL THIS BE A NATIONAL Holiday ? Fast short answer is YES. Happy 10 4

FIRST Ø ENTRY: And a great alibi and a list of formidable excuses however nothing really ‘new’.

Short on time, crunched and squeezed and certain I cannot capture all of the minute details so not going to even going to make a feeble attempt.

I will however make a half-hearted attempt at reporting on the highest number of activities of the most interest to the vast majority of Fans, Followers and otherwise phools following and keeping track of such things at home, independently locked down OR squirreled away like nuts.

This National Holiday will ALWAYS be the fourth (4th) for all the right and obvious reasons. None of this ‘first, second or last Monday or Friday’ bs. Flags will fly in silent observance to all those that have gone and passed along ‘unacknowledged, unrecognized or otherwise unnoticed’. The living unsung ‘Heros’ also can, should and will be honored in quiet and modest recognition celebrations and ceremonies. Starting with Parents, grandies, First responders, etc.

This on the heels of a STATE holiday Texas Defiance day. Recall 2 October in Texas history and I think the 10/2 cause will be borrowed and ‘reclaimed’ from Dr. Pepper to move along the effort to make the State observance a National and Federally observed Holiday. Stay tuned for that but be warned. The effort is in congress and could take some time.

Surprise, surprise.

The rising sun this day finds your correspondent in Spring, the town NOT the season. Tomorrow I wheel out and back up to the cloud.

COME ON POR FAVOR! GET AFTER IT ALREADY.

Tough crowd.

Let me see, where have I been at a very high level…

I was in Fort Worth TWICE in a week for golf-related activities.

THAT’S RIGHT. DIDN’T YOU PLAY?

You remembered.

HOW DID THAT GO?

Well, to be as colorful as an artisan and a Spin MD, it was an ‘undocumented disaster’.

EXPLAIN POR FAVOR.

Do I HAVE TO?

AHEM. (clearing of the throat …)

I started out with a perfect drive from the first tee and it was at that point I should have quit. A couple of flubs, carding a snowman (8) the second hole saw two (2) sour and pathetic shots and another dub-bogey so right away +5 after 2.

There wasn’t much to crow about only a rare fair or acceptable shots and even those moved up in classification to ‘great’ before the day was done. And could I strike two (2) even DECENT shots in a row?

NO?

No. Not.

I limped home humbled once again by the course which should NOT have been and returned Sunday for the Big XII Colonial Collegiate Invitational and that was much better. My job as a volunteer was walking scorer which was all new. Unlike the PGA tournament where the scorers, for this event we put and ‘app’ on our own smart phone and only kept score without the ridiculous ‘stats’ recorded for the professionals. No drive in fairway, GIR, putts etc so that was easier.

Due to the epidemic ‘safety’ considerations and precautions, the threesome was three (3) members from the Kansas Jayhawks and the head coach rounded out the group.

The image is the group and was Ben Sigel (#1 player), Sioun (pronounced sign) Audroin (#4) and William Duquette (#6).

I know during the tournament we are not supposed to speak with the players however saw no such rule for this event.

But knowing the Game and being respectful that the players were concentrating and focused on the task at hand, I did speak briefly to each as an opportunity would presented itself. Even coach Jamie Bernil was approachable at times.

So here is what I learned.

Will introduced himself but before that coach told me he was a freshman and from Canada. So I only asked him where in Canada?

‘MONTREAL’

Very cool so we went on that for a bit like the jazz festival, cold weather and the Canadiens and later, did he play hockey?

‘YES’. He stopped playing to concentrate on golf but still plays once a week when he is home.

A large unit from a Jon Rahm mold, Duke could cream and powder the ball. On number 12, he was 100 yards past the other two players and he was OVER the green in 2 on number 1 AND made number 11 play short at OVER 600 yards and there were other holes where he was hitting 3-iron to give the knowledgeable reader and idea and even then was further than the other two teammates of average to more ‘normal’stature.

Number one player for the Jayhawks Ben Sigel was engaging and most approachable. A solid striker of the ball, the Jr (sports communications major) told me that this was the first of three Texas stops for the team. I axed him where they were going next and he gave me the full tour schedule. The weekend 2-4 O in Houston and the following weekend at a plush course in Carrollton which I made mental notes of.

I get to H-town and in a down moment begin an on-line investigation into the course for the Big XII match play event. I find it AND it is nearby!!

to be continued …
