Colonial Invitational Chuck Schwab Challenge Pro-am
25 May, day 1 as things get underway with the money-grab known as the pro-am.
The fiasco pairs four rank amateurs usually with a very wide range of skill levels and a professional. It has gotten so bad I reckon for the professionals that they only play nine (9) holes and switch with another professional. Last year only a rare few split the round but now apparently players whined loud enough long enough to cut their workload and exposure in half.
My group was lacking in all forms of luster proof being one of the amateurs was more widely recognized than the professionals. Gary Patterson was the former head football coach at TCU right near the course and had a small following. Outgoing and engaging he spoke to both myself and our scorer for that side Kim.
S Theegala was a young, tall, thin dark-skinned islander-type that played for the Pepperdine Wave until fairly recently apparently. After play completed he had a couple of good stories one funny that will miss the cut here due to time considerations.
Troy Merritt I had heard of but .certainly not overly familiar with. He was a very nice gentleman and when we got backed up on hole 4 and had to wait for the group in front of us to clear spent a few extra minutes chatting it up with Kim & I. Mostly Kim which was fine.
Merritt signed a ball, Tg didn’t.
As I approach the 20-year milestone, I reflected as I walked and later with Mrs Kim all of the subtle little changes over the years. This could also be greatly expanded and debated good or bad, right or wrong but time is a factor here how.
WAIT. YOU SAID TWO ISSUES AGO YOU WERE OFF TODAY. WHAT’S UP WITH THAT?
Of all the people keeping score at home you raise your hand with a question and take the train off the rails.
I still have things to do and planned activities.
ENLIGHTEN THE 7-8 LOYALISTS OUT HERE, POR FAVOR.
When I am here I always go coral shopping at Pottery Barn and in the same upscale plaza there is a J. Crew store that I check out on the off-chance something strikes me. Things like that.
I had thought about a museum tour or 2. I recall the Kimbell having an interesting exhibit and Amon Carter had a billboard for something that looked cool I noticed while driving.
Then there are the phone calls for the business of my two (2) lives. Check on Silver, set appointments
and the list goes on and on.
There is rest up for tomorrow, later in the day check up on tournament results as they start to come in and maybe go over to the course for lunch and watch some action. I can take my badge and wear the shirt and walk right in so all good.
I brought reading material and three Starcki damselfish to finish painting. And the Stanley Cup playoffs are on the telly so this truly is like a mini-vacation.
I’ll fill in details later OR when we can gather with a pitcher of lemonade or beer.
Right now coffee is in short supply and much needed.
