Friday 23 A

It’s Friday and cause to celebrate however festivities can wait until a bit later. You see there is a short list of actionable items needing to be addressed and accomplished prior to sitting, putting the feet up, relaxing and reflection on the state of the self.

I have reached chapter LXX and final chapter of Grant’s memoirs. There is a conclusion and appendix in addition to the ‘selected letters.’

Certainly not all of the letters as stated previously I will be selecting which letters. Interested in reading Grant’s letters, earIy and later, to Mrs Grant.

Another eureka event branching from this book is discovery of the Library of America. (loa.org)

This is a very interesting non-profit and the catalog is most impressive the reads are both falling in line AND stacking up.

Next is a pace change with Bring the Jubilee and then joining loa and ordering either Ambrose Bierce or Sherman's memoirs. Both longer but I am positive each will be as entertaining and enlightening as Grant’s.

Late in Grant he mentions how the ‘newspapers’, and ‘certain politicians’ made 'disparaging remarks' after the war which harmed Sherman’s reputation and immediate career plans.

No question his was a dirty job but it had to be done. The leadership’s goal was a swift dispatch of the rebellion and go forward making the republic and Union stronger.

Anyway, like mathematics, history should be more studied NOT canceled as the current culture seems intent on doing because my own personal phobia is society and mankind will either forget critical points OR dissolve completely. The latter has me somewhat perplexed and slightly depressed this morning UNTIL I came across the link to THIS story.

I have met Mr Mayfair on two (2) different occasions at the Colonial and he presented me with a couple of autographed golf balls each time. He was shy and didn’t say much but he made the effort, I got it and thanked him and wished him both luck and continued success to which he said ‘Thanks’ walking away.

As I made my observations each time I couldn't help thinking he was maybe half-a-bubble off however I reasoned that he was ‘working’, concentrating, under pressure and gave him the respect any individual should get but especially a professional golfer.

Afterall, I was ‘working’ and representing the Colonial CC, the PGA, City of FW and even the state of Texas. These things are important and everyone should at least THINK about such things but ACT appropriately if placed in such positions by choice or otherwise.

When you are feeling close to the dumps and self-wrapped in pity, find someone in a worse place. I find MY problems greatly reduced to 'insignificant.' I find a prayer or three (3) also provides the necessary lift out of the rut.

I’m going to end it right here.

Have another cup of coffee enjoying same and the conclusion of the second episode today of the Lone Ranger.

Look for a report next week and remind me (keyword) ‘How was the Show’ por favor. Make sure those dues are up to date.

OK. WILL DO.
